LYME REGIS RES 1

UPWEY & BROADWEY 5

UPWEY & Broadwey progressed to the Dorset Intermediate Cup second round with an impressive 5-1 victory over Lyme Regis Reserves at Davey Fort.

Lyme, who fielded a number of first-teamers after their game at University of Exeter Seconds fell victim to the Covid-19 outbreak in Devon, were 1-0 down inside five minutes when Jack Summers poked in.

Lyme equalised when Jonny Davies slotted home Tyler Wellman’s incisive ball.

Summers made it 2-1 when his persistence created an easy chance and Upwey added a third from the spot after a handball, Jack Brown converting when his penalty was saved by Rob Harp.

Upwey sub Jack Butland’s solo run yielded a fourth and Derek Wall rounded Harp late on for a fifth.

Reynolds said: “It was a good win, 5-1 probably flattered us. They weren’t a bad side.

“Let’s go on and win the damn thing! That’s obviously the aim.

“The lads, you can be proud of them. I get no complaints from those that don’t start. The off-field camaraderie between the whole group makes them formidable. They all work so well and get on so well – they’re a real good bunch of lads.”

Steve Reynolds’ men will now host Blandford United Reserves on Saturday, November 14 (1.30pm) for a quarter-final place.

Upwey: H Reynolds, R Walden (Sapsworth 46), Sowerby, J Walden, Roberts, Summers, Biles, Preece, Hine (Butland 46), Wall (Allen 70), Brown (Wall 80). Sub not used: Murphy
